Harmony day provided students with an opportunity to learn about different cultures and customs under the theme ‘Everyone belongs’. Together we celebrated Australia’s multiculturalism through sharing a meal that contained menu items from a range of countries, wearing orange, and completing a school-based activities. The day highlighted the importance of cultural diversity and encouraged each person to live our shared values of inclusiveness, respect, equality, freedom and belonging.
Wear it Purple Day provides an opportunity for the school community to celebrate, empower, and advocate for rainbow young people. The day focuses on celebrating and promoting the values of diversity and inclusion within the school and wider community and teaches students about sexuality, sex and gender identify and how to challenge harmful social cultures. In class students learn about inclusive language and misgendering and pronouns, participate in a Wear it Purple assembly, and complete a range of activities to support inclusion.
The Hilltop parents/carers community were invited to participate in the first combined Education Week event. The three schools came together to showcase their skills through a Hilltop Art Exhibition that showcased the wonderful creativity that exists within the students. Photography, music, lino-printing, paintings, and other pieces were on display. The Hilltop also hosted a transition community day where parent/carers and the student body were able to visit a range of different employment services to build connections for support in transition post-school.
R U OK? A question that can change a life. Staff and students wore yellow to celebrate R U OK day and participated in a range of activities where the theme of asking one another if they are ok, was a focal point. The R U OK? Charity aims to start life-changing conversations that create more connection. The day contributes to suicide preventions by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and build the capacity of informal support networks to be alert, identify signs of distress or difficulty, connect someone to appropriate supports, before crisis point.
Campbell House School has been White Ribbon school since completing the Breaking the Silence Schools Program many years ago. The White Ribbon campaign works through primary prevention initiatives to change and help end men’s violence against women. It is a day for the community, especially men, to stop and reflect on the challenge we all face in overcoming men’s violence against women, an opportunity to acquire new knowledge, and renewing our commitment to change. Each year we acknowledge through an assembly and in class learning activities ways to engage in healthy communication and relationships.
